Transcription
At Handsworth in the County of Stafford the Twenty Eight day of April 1788
In presence of Joseph Cartes Sgn, one of her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace for the said County of Stafford compeased Mathew Boulton of Soho in the said county of Stafford Engineer who being solemnly sworn deposes that the sum of two hundred & fifty nine pounds thirteen shillings & 3½ still due by John Stein Distiller at Kennetpans to the deponent and James Watt Engineer of Soho in the County of Stafford aforesaid contained in an account commencing the 16th day of December 1786, and ending the first day of January 1788 being the expense of erecting a Steam Engine of the said James Watt Inventor at the works of the said John Stein at Kennetpans owe one half years premium for same in terms of a contract entered into between the Deponent and James Watt aforesaid in the one part and the said John Stein dated the 20th day of June & 26th day of July 1787 years, is a just and honest debt resting it owing by the said John Stein and that no part thereof has been paid or in any manner compensated.
All which is truth as the Deponent shall answer to God
