A Prosecution having been commenced in the Court of Exchequer Candlemas Term, 1791, By English Bill against John Jameson, John Stein, James Stein, Richard Philp, Partners in Trade and Alexander Bald their Agent, to recover the Duties Short paid on sundry Cargos of Timber Imported and Landed at Alloa by the foresaid Company between the 1st November 1786 and 3rd February 1791. Mr Taylor, Agent for the Defendants applied by Petition to the Honourable Board of Customs the 23rd December 1793 to stop proceedings in the foresaid Prosecution upon paying the sum of £171-17-3 being the amount of the Duties confessed to have been short paid on certain Parcels of Timber. And the Board having agreed hitherto, and the said sum received by the Solicitor there falls to be deducted therefrom £47-2-2, the amount of Costs the remainder being £124-15-1, was paid over by the Solicitor to the Receiver General on account of the Collector at Alloa, and the same is now brought to Account of the consolidated Duties of Customs by this feigned Entry agreeable to the Board’s Order of the 8th Instant 124-15-1
