On 31st October 1786 James Stein became the registered owner of the Elizabeth of Kincardine. This ship was built in Kincardine by James Gray in 1780.

She was a Square Sterned Carval Sloop and she had one deck and one mast, she was 49ft 7in long and 17ft 10in wide. The depth of her hold was 9ft 7in and she was 59 tons

Registered to William Cumming on 6th August 1787.

This vessel was captured by a French Frigate whilst on a voyage from Dublin.

In pursuance of an Act, passed in the Twenty-sixth Year of the Reign of King   

GEORGE the Third, Intitled, An Act for the further Increase and Encouragement of        

Shipping and Navigation,     James Stein of Kilbagie in the Parish and                                     

County of Clackmannan and District of Alloa                                                                  

having taken and subscribed the Oath required by the Act, and having sworn that      

He himself is                                                                                                                                

sole Owner of the Ship or Vessel called         The Elizabeth of                                                 

Kincardine                                  whereof         Thomas   Jameson                                             

is at present Master, and that the said Ship or Vessel     was Built at Kincardine              

by James Gray, In the year One Thousand seven hundred and                               

Eighty                                  And    Mr John Watso Landwaiter                                           

having certified to Us, that the said Ship or Vessel is Brit Built has One Deck                

and One Mast: that her Length, from the Fore-part of the Main Stem to the            

After-part of the Stern Post aloft, is         Forty nine feet seven Inches                            

Her Breadth at the broadest Part, whether above or below the Main Wales, Seventeen 

feet Ten Inches                                   her       Depth of Hold nine feet two Inches               

and measures   Fifty nine                                                                 Tons; that she                

is a              Square Sterned Carval Sloop        has  No    Gallery, and No                       

Head; and the said subscribing Owners having consented and agreed to the above      

Description and Measurement, and having caused sufficient Security to be given, as       

is required by the said Act, the said           Sloop Elizabeth                                  has been  

duly registered at the Port of           Alloa.

Given under Our Hands and Seals of Office, at the Custom-house in the said port      

of      Alloa                                         this       Thirty first              Day of     October            

in the Year One thousand seven hundred and   Eighty six.
